THE MASS IS A TRUE SACRIFICE
PROOF FROM THE COUNCIL OF TRENT
With regard to the institution of this Sacrifice, the holy Council of Trent has left no with room for doubt, by declaring that it was instituted by our Lord at His last Supper; while it condemns under anathema all the those who assert that in it not offered to God a true and proper Sacrifice; or that to offer means nothing less that that Christ is given as spiritual food. Nor did (the Council) omit carefully to explain that to God alone is offered this Sacrifice. For although the Church sometimes offers Masses in honor and in memory of the Saints, yet she teaches that the Sacrifice is offered, not to them, but to God alone, who has crowned the Saints with immortal glory. Hence the priest never says: I offer Sacrifice to Peter, or to Thee Paul; but, while he offfers Sacrifice to God alone, he renders Him thanks for the signal victory won the blessed martyrs, and thus implore their patronage, that they, whose memory we celebrate on earth, may vouchsafe to intercede for us in heaven.
THE TREMENDOUS VALUE OF THE MASS
AT the hour of death the Holy Mass you have heard devoutly will be your greatest consolation at Every Mass will go with you to judgment and will plead for pardon for you. By every Mass you can diminish the temporal punishment due to your sins, more or less according to your fervor. By devoutly assisting at Holy Mass you render the greatest homage to the Sacred Humanity of Our Lord. Through the Holy Sacrifice Our Lord Jesus Christ supplies for many of your negligences and omissions. He forgives you all the venial sins which you are determined to avoid. He forgives you of all your unknown sins which you never confessed. The power of Satan over you is diminished. By piously hearing Mass you afford the souls in Purgatory the greatest possible relief. One Mass, heard during your life, will be of more benefit to you than many heard for you after your death. Through Mass you are preserved from many dangers and misfortunes which would otherwise have fallen you. You shorten your Purgatory by every Mass and during the Mass you kneel amid a multitude of Holy Angels, who are presented at the Adorable Sacrifice with reverential awe. Through the Mass you are blessed in your temporal goods and affairs. When you hear Mass, devoutly offering it to Almighty God in honor of any particular Saint or Angel, thanking God for the favors bestowed on him etc., etc., you afford that Saint or Angel a new degree of honor, joy, and happiness and draw his special love and protection on yourself. Every time you assist Holy Mass, besides other intentions , you should offer it in honor of the Saint of the day.
